At Highland Cottage Rentals, nature is in our bones. We have grown up surrounded by nature in the Cairngorms National Park and strive to do everything we can to preserve and sustain the Highlands and our planet. We are committed to reducing the impact of all our activities and encouraging appreciation of the natural beauty of our surroundings for everyone to enjoy.
Here’s what we have done at Riverside Cottage to reduce our carbon footprint.
- Fitted above building standard insulation to help with keeping you warm & to make our heating system as efficient as possible.
- Installed solar panels on the garage roof to heat the water.
- Put LED lighting throughout the property that are 80% more efficient than traditional lighting.
- Planted a herb & salad garden for your use, to promite organic ingredients & to help reduce supermarket plastics.
- We use a green web hosting company based entirely in the UK for our website & online communications. We highly recommend them, click here to check them out - Eco Hosting!
- We employ a local cleaner who can walk to the property.
- We air dry the linen when possible to conserve energy by not using a tumbler dryer.
- Respect natural resources and where possible recover & reuse materials for our projects.
- We have swapped out cleaning products & toiletries for sustainably sourced products & eco friendly substances.
- Compost – we have another property where we take all of the food waste & turn this into compost for our self-sustained veggie garden.
- Added a separate recycling bin to no excuses not to recycle when you stay with us!
- Installed a traditional wood fired hot tub for wellbeing & the eco - friendly benefits.
